Implores Congress and Biden Administration to Pass Long Term Funding Bills
WASHINGTON – The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) – representing the U.S. shipbuilding and repair industry, issued the following statement applauding the Congress passing and President Biden signing the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act into law.
Below is a quote attributable to Matthew Paxton, SCA President:
“For over 60 years, Congress has supported the servicemembers to protect our national and domestic security, as well as the shipbuilders, ship repair and industrial base workforce through the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act and we applaud Congress and the Biden Administration for signing the 2022 NDAA into law. While advancing the NDAA is essential, we also must not take our eyes off the ball to pass meaningful and long term spending budgets that give certainty to the industries that support our national and domestic security. Short term funding gimmicks, like ongoing Continuous Resolutions, damage America’s ability to maintain a strong national and domestic defense and we hope Congress will work together across the aisle to make this a priority in 2022.”
The 2022 NDAA authorizes a total of $768.2 billion for U.S. national security in fiscal 2022 for Department of Defense spending and certain Energy Department defense programs, with $27.2 billion of the total going to 13 ships. Additionally, the measure extends the Navy’s authority to procure one or more contracts for three San Antonio-class amphibious ships and one America-class amphibious ship through the 2022 fiscal.
